Corruption Runs DEEP in BATF

Mexicans grow very tired of the high-handed USGOV talk of corruption in high places in the government in Mexico when the fish rots from the head down in the US as well.

By now, I'm sure that you heard that ATF Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge George Gillett's personal handgun was found at the scene of a gun battle between the Mexican Army (SEDENA) and the Sinaloa Federation. The matter is all the more infamous because Maria Susana Gamez, a Mexican beauty queen was one of five dead at the scene.

Fox News asked, "How did a gun belonging to a former assistant special agent in charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives end up at a crime scene in Mexico where five died, including a Mexican beauty queen?" But it's not just Fox News and the American Congress who want answers. The Mexican people want them too. And they don't hear President Obama talking about anything but going to Hawaii on vacation for three weeks.

Maria Susana Flores Gamez,
deceased beauty queen
We know that President Obama won't be doing much about this because his fingerprints and those of Attorney General Eric Holder are all over Operation Fast and Furious, the US Government program that allowed over 2,000 firearms to be transferred from the US to Mexico through straw buyers. In addition to the handgun registered personally to ASAC Gilette, another weapon found at the crime scene was traced to a Uriel Patino, who illegally bought more than 600 guns and is a main suspect in the controversial Operation Fast and Furious run out of the Phoenix office of the ATF.

After the Fast and Furious scandal broke, ASAC Gillette was promoted and sent to BATF Headquarters to a cushy liaison job (requiring almost no work at all). Some maintain that this was his reward for keeping his mouth shut about what he knew.

I suspect that Attorney General Holder didn't know that he provided his own Fabrique National (FN) 57 handgun to the cartels as well. Was it a personal gift to the Sinaloa Federation in appreciation? I don't know. Maybe Mr. Gillette can tell us. Only he really knows the whole story. We do know that George Gillette lied on his application to purchase the handgun.
(Fox News) Gillett purchased the weapon at Legendary Arms, a Phoenix gun store. On the federal form 4473 used to buy the gun, Gillett used the ATF office address, 201 East Washington, and said "Apt 940." On subsequent purchase, Gillett used a commercial address, that of a strip mall.
Both actions are illegal, since ATF regulations require buyers use their residential address. "Lying on form 4473 is a felony and can be punished by up to five years in prison in addition to fines," Sen. Charles Grassley said in a letter Wednesday to Michael Horowitz in the Office of Inspector General. "I request that you initiate an investigation into these matters and that you specifically examine whether Mr. Gillett was the purchaser as indicated by these documents, why the forms list multiple, inaccurate residential addresses while purchasing the weapons, and how the weapon purchased on January 7, 2010 ended up in Mexico."
Does anyone really believe that Attorney General Holder wants to see George Gillette sent to prison for five years? If that happens, will Gillette break and go public with his story?
FN Herstal
(Fox News) "Why would the assistant in charge of that office be buying guns in the first place?" Grassley said in an interview with Fox News. That would raise the question of the extent to which that person might be involved in the gun trafficking that was going on and profiting from it. ... These are legitimate questions."
Assistant Special Agent in Charge George Gillette says that he sold the handgun on the Internet because he'd "run into a few financial problems". Note that sales of this particular handgun are restricted to law enforcement and the military. AND the ASAC is selling it on the INTERNET? Nobody in Mexico will believe that lie. The fish rots from the head down and George Gillette is not the head of the fish.
The Herstal pistol is nicknamed a "cop-killer" because of its designation as a "weapon of choice" for Mexican drug cartels.

  1. I'm not sure the FN 5-7 is restricted to police and military sales only. I do think that they (the Wiser Powers That Be) have attempted to restrict certain ammunition (erroneously nicknamed "cop killers") to LEO and military sales only. Can somebody please explain why a cop would want to buy "cop killers", better yet, why a cop would be willing to sell his "cop killer" to some no-faced individual over the Internet?

    1. You're correct - they're not precisely restricted to police and military sales in MOST US States.

I have no idea why George Gillett would want to sell his handgun that is "a danger to law enforcement" to some cluck on the Internet. I'm sure that he won't get in trouble for it no matter what. - All pigs are equal, some are more equal than others.

  2. The 5.7 pistol is not restricted to LE, it is available anywhere guns are legally sold. Some of the ammo available in the 5.7 caliber is restricted by federal law and only available to LE agencies and the military.

The "cop killer" term is only used by anti-gun idiots who know nothing about guns or ammunition and are looking to hype certain items to try and facilitate banning them.

    1. The slang term SEMAR MATA has been applied to this handgun in Mexico. Technically Las Fuerzas Armadas de México are the Mexican Naval Infantry/Marines, not the Army or the Police. So the term used by many narcos - is simply their term. This blog does not apply the term "cop killer" to any weapon and agrees with your assessment.

  3. The filth and corruption of the Obama Administration and the BATF in this case is astounding, regardless of whether or not this ONE pistol was available to civilians (or not). With hundreds of Mexicans dead and thousands maimed by firearms given to Mexican drug cartels by the ATF, SOMEONE needs to face life in prison.

    1. There are not many out there who are naive enough to believe that any in the Obama Administration will face any sanctions at all for engaging in an operation aimed at furthering firearms control in the US. That's what Fast and Furious was - and it backfired. Now California Senator Dianne Feinstein has taken up the flag and is carrying it forward.

I'm slightly offended that none of them cite draconian gun control laws in Mexico as an example of how effective legislation can be in defending an honest and unarmed population from rampant murder, kidnapping, extortion, rape and other acts of violence.

  4. The Dick Act of 1902 also known as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R. 11654, of June 28, 1902 invalidates all so-called gun-control laws. It also divides the militia into three distinct and separate entities.
The three classes H.R. 11654 provides for are the organized militia, henceforth known as the National Guard of the State, Territory and District of Columbia, the unorganized militia and the regular army.
The militia encompasses every able-bodied male between the ages of 18 and 45. All members of the unorganized militia have the absolute personal right and 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms of any type, and as many as they can afford to buy.
The Dick Act of 1902 cannot be repealed; to do so would violate bills of attainder and ex post facto laws which would be yet another gross violation of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The President of the United States has zero authority without violating the Constitution to call the National Guard to serve outside of their State borders.
The National Guard Militia can only be required by the National Government for limited purposes specified in the Constitution (to uphold the laws of the Union; to suppress insurrection and repel invasion).
These are the only purposes for which the General Government can call upon the National Guard.

    1. Does anyone reading this blog believe that the Obama Administration has any intent what-so-ever to follow either the letter of spirit of the US Constitution? Operation Fast and Furious was nothing short of a bungled attempt to make it appear as though Mexican drug cartels were obtaining the majority of their arms from the US. Thus, it would make a case to eliminate the Second Amendment to the extent possible.
